Trauma
Trauma is the experience of severe psychological distress following any terrible or life-threatening event. Trauma can cause debilitating disruptions in an individuals life. Relationships can become strained and vulnerability and connection in an individuals life is non-existent due to deep fear of pain, loss, abandonment and rejection. Substance Dependence & Recovery
An addiction is a chronic disorder in which an individual is blinded by a substance, or engages in an activity, that gives them an immense amount of pleasure but has become detrimental to their everyday life. Addiction is a coping mechanism designed to protect an individual against pain. Eating Disorder
Anorexia, Bulimia, Overeating, Binge Eating and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorders claim the lives of millions of people every year. Eating disorders hold a record for having the highest mortality rate when compared to other mental illnesses. Our Sarasota counselor team will tell you overcoming an eating disorder requires support and the willingness to uncover longstanding psychodynamic issues that fueled the eating disorder to manifest itself. Eating disorders like other addictions are a way for an individual to cope, soothe oneself, feel and or numb out pain. Eating Disorders do not have to end with a death sentence. There is recovery.
Depression & Anxiety
Depression and Anxiety two of the top psychological disturbances that individuals experience in their lifetime. Depression and Anxiety create blocks for people in their lives that keep them from living the life they want, having close vulnerable relationships with others and debilitate someone to the degree at which they can no longer leave their home. Sometimes Depression and Anxiety is caused by chemical imbalances that need to be addressed. GRIEF & LOSS
Throughout the course of our years, we all experience a loss at some point in our lives. In fact, statistics show that 1 in 5 children will experience the death of someone close to them before 18 years of age. Grief and loss is also experienced at a developmental level. We are in a constant state of loss as we will never be able to return to various different times of our lives which force us to grieve that which we cannot get back or will never have the opportunity to experience.
